New IEC Code application norm for registration with DGFT: Any bonafide Individual or entity wanting to export or import any goods more than the value of INR 25,000 should obtain valid IE Code i.e. Importer Exporter Code popularly referred as IEC Number or Mistakenly as IEC Code from DGFT in India.
Any Indian citizen or entity such as registered partnership firm, LLP, Pvt. Ltd., Company or Limited company can apply to Director General of Foreign Trade online and receive IE Code. Supporting Documents are required to be submitted in hard copy at any of zonal offices of DGFT.
One who desire to apply for IEC can do so by themselves or can take service of any Export Import Consultant. Although it is not necessary to take the services of any such Export Import Consultant, however it is advisable to have business relationship with someone who have Full knowledge of Foreign Trade Policy of India to take most benefit out of it. One can also get familiar with laws, rules and regulation pertaining to
customs, Export, Import and Foreign Exchange by reading books.

View your IEC online as registered with DGFT: (you need 10 digit IE Code number and first 3 character of name)
Check IEC current status
Lost IEC Number: Where an IEC Number is misplaced or lost, the regional DGFT may consider requests for grant of a duplicate copy of IEC number, if accompanied by an affidavit. You need to provide PAN number for easy retrieval of IEC Number. There can be several IEC number in the same name especially in case of individual, proprietorship concerns and partnership firms.
